Ruth Roman was born on June 22nd, 1939, in Lynn Massachusetts. The actress was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. When she was young the carnival barker father died which left Ruth's mother no option but to be a cleaning woman and waitress to provide for the family. Ruth attended school, and grew up poor in Boston Massachusetts' tenement districts. Following only two school years the young woman left to pursue an acting profession. The path was difficult to take. While she was offered an interview as a hat check girl in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine, no theatre jobs was offered. After a brief time as a club hat girl, she decided to return home and quit the job she was working in. It was there that she earned a living as an usherette by day, and at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. This was her very first role as an actor. Her studies in drama led her to earn her degree at Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
